Hodag Highlighhts: Softball gets second win of the season

The Rhinelander High School softball team welcomed the Lakeland Thunderbirds to the Andrea Musson softball field on April 14. It was the first outside home game of the season for the Hodags. The score was tied 0-0 after the first inning but everything started to change in the second as Lakeland scored two runs and held the Hodags scoreless. In the third, Lakeland erupted for 11 runs and tacked on five more in the 4th inning. The Hodags were held hitless and scoreless to end the game in 4 innings 18-0. Aleece Johnson started on the mound for the Hodags while Saylor Timmerman, the Arkansas recruit, was the starter and winner for Lakeland. Kendall Vanney pitched part of the third inning and did not record an out. Johnson came back in to pitch and finished the game.
The Hodags traveled to Three Lakes on Thursday, April 17 and defeated the Bluejays 15-10 for the second win of the season.
Johnson pitched a complete game for the Hodags, striking out 10. At the plate, Johnson walked four times and drove in 3 runs. The Hodags took advantage of the 16 walks they took in the game. Kendall Vanney had 2twohits and 3 RBIs and Kalyn Miller drove in two runs.
The Hodag softball team has now won more games than it did all of last season.
