Three Rhinelander High School wrestlers won individual Great Northern Conference titles at Saturday’s conference meet hosted by Antigo.
The Hodags’ Jacob DeMeyer recorded four of his five match victories on pins and won the other match on a 6-1 decision over Lakeland Union High School’s Jake McClintock to place first at 152 pounds.
At 182 pounds, RHS’s Alec Kurtz received a pair of byes and won two matches on pins and the other on a forfeit to win a conference title.
The Hodags’ Colton Krueger had one bye and won four matches on pins to become the GNC champion at 220 pounds.
One RHS wrestler, Alec Bess, placed second at 170 pounds. The Hodags’ eight third-place finishers included Reuben Guzik (113), Anthony Kowalski (120), Tyler Olson (126), Alec Modrow (132) Eric Grulke (138), Kyle Kuester (145), Scott Fox (160) and Trevor Knap (285).
MEDFORD WINS TEAM TITLE
The Hodags, who entered the conference meet in third place in dual competition with a 3-2 record, weren’t able to repeat as the GNC champion after placing second in the six-team tournament. Medford, which was undefeated in dual competition, became the new GNC champion after winning the conference meet with 420 points, followed by RHS (394), Antigo (326), Tomahawk (275), Lakeland (197) and Mosinee (136).
RHS’s next meet is this coming Saturday in the Division 1 Regional at Merrill.
