The Great Northern Conference tennis meet was hosted by Rhinelander on Friday with players from five schools taking part. Some of the teams did not have all flights filled. Lakeland only had a No.1 singles player, while other schools had gaps in their lineups. Rhinelander, on the other hand, had 30 boys out for tennis this year and no issues filling all the flights.
The other teams at the meet were Antigo, Medford and Stevens Point Pacelli.
The Hodags’ worst finish for the meet was a third place finish for No. 4 singles player Joey Sturzl, good enough for Honorable Mention All Conference.
The doubles team of Elijah Evers and Luke Ring played at number one doubles and were First Team All Conference and by virtue of that finish were named Doubles Players of the Year in conference.
At No. 1 singles, senior Jacob Weddle went undefeated in conference and finished First Team All Conference and Singles Player of the Year.
The Hodags finished as the number one team in conference and earned the championship trophy.
