Glacial artwork?

IMG_4917CIt may not be as plain as the face of a religious figure on a grilled cheese sandwich, but a rock in a Rhinelander man’s yard sure bears a resemblance to the shape of the state of Wisconsin.

A closer view of the granite on the face of the large rock.

The man, who asked not to be identified, found the huge composite rock buried underground and it beckoned to him. He loaded it in his truck and brought it home. That’s when he recognized that sticking out of the face of the rock is a piece of granite, worn, possibly by glaciers into a rough image of our state.

“I don’t want anyone to think I’m crazy,” the man said. “But I do think it’s something that should be shared.”

He believes the rock was formed during the glacial period, which by geological accounts would have taken place more than 20,000 years ago.
