Fair maps community hearing coming to Rhinelander

Posted

The Wisconsin Fair Maps Coalition will host a community hearing from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 23, at ArtStart (65 S. Stevens St.) to gather public feedback on a proposed Independent Redistricting Commission for Wisconsin.
“The statewide tour marks a critical moment for Wisconsin’s democratic process,” organizers said in a press release. “While the state currently has fair voting maps, these protections are temporary and expire before the 2030 Census. Without permanent legislation in place, Wisconsin could return to a system where politicians draw districts to favor their own party—rather than representing the true will of voters.”
“We’re at a pivotal moment,” said a coalition spokesperson. “This hearing gives Wisconsinites a chance to shape how their districts are drawn moving forward and ensure that voters choose their representatives, not the other way around.”
The evening will feature a presentation detailing the overview of the draft Independent Redistricting Commission proposal, and an open forum for questions and community input.
All are welcome to attend. The event is sponsored by Wisconsin Democracy Campaign and the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin, along with multiple other nonpartisan organizations working to advance fair redistricting across the state.
