The City of Rhinelander is calling on residents to get involved in local government, with dozens of volunteer positions opening up on various boards, committees, and commissions this spring.
City Clerk Austyn Zarda announced the openings, which span 14 different governing bodies that help shape policy and decision-making across the city. Positions will become available in April 2026, with terms ranging from one to five years depending on the board.
The openings include two seats on the Board of Review, which handles property assessment appeals, and positions on bodies that oversee everything from urban planning to public safety. The Police and Fire Commission has two five-year positions available, while the Plan Commission seeks one resident for a three-year term.
Arts and culture enthusiasts can apply for four positions on the Public Arts Commission, and history buffs may be interested in the five openings on the Historical Preservation Commission. The Zoning Board of Appeals has three seats open, each carrying a three-year term.
Other opportunities include positions on the Joint Library Board, Urban Forestry Tree Board, Tourism and Marketing Commission, Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee, Downtown Works Loan Committee, Ethics Committee, Sex Offender Residency Review Board, and Rhinelander Housing Commission.
