STAR JOURNAL REPORT
After meeting in closed session Tuesday, the Rhinelander Golf Course Advisory Committee backed a new contract for David O’Melia to continue running Mulligan’s Restaurant at the Northwood Golf Course through the end of 2018.
The proposed operating agreement, which would require final approval by the full City Council, sets the monthly rent at $2,000 for a total of $18,000 next year and $20,000 in 2018.
In addition to the restaurant continuing its food/beverage concession, language added to the proposed new contract also includes the beverage cart service.
The city sought proposals in August to have someone operate the restaurant year-round, but no one else came forward.
In other action, the committee favored purchasing 40 new Yamaha golf cars to replace 40 club cars more than 10 years old. The proposal from Meyer Yamaha of Ishpeming, Mich., lists the new cars at $4,903 each and a trade-in value for the course’s existing cars at $1,600 apiece. The total cost for the new golf cars of $196,120, minus $64,000 for the trade-ins, would bring the overall net purchase price to $132,120.
Committee members voiced support for replacing the cars, for which the golf course is able to raise revenue by renting out, to have new ones that would be more reliable and require less maintenance.
