The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is investigating an officer-involved death that occurred this morning in the Town of Lake Tomahawk. According to a press release issued just before 6 p.m., two Oneida County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the 5000 block of Lumen Lake Drive in the Town of Lake Tomahawk at approximately 10:30 this morning to affect an arrest of a subject regarding a felony investigation. “Upon contact with law enforcement, the subject produced and discharged a firearm,” the release states. “One deputy discharged their firearm, striking the subject. EMS was contacted and the subject was pronounced deceased on scene. No members of law enforcement or other members of the public were injured during this incident. There is no known threat to the public.” The release did not include any information about the deceased individual and did not identify the deputies. It did note that both officers will be placed on administrative assignment, per agency policy. DCI is leading the investigation and is assisted by a DCI Crime Response Specialist, the Newbold Fire Department, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Minocqua Police Department, the Woodruff Police Department, the Rhinelander Police Department, and the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office. “Involved law enforcement is fully cooperating with DCI during this investigation,” the release states. “DCI is continuing to review evidence and determine the facts of this incident and will turn over the investigative reports to the Oneida County District Attorney’s office when the investigation concludes.” |
