Contested race in Districts 3, 4, 5, 7

The two female supervisors on the 21-member Oneida County Board have decided not to seek re-election next spring.

District 5 supervisor Carol Pederson, who represents Wards 9, 12 and 14 in Rhinelander and Ward 2 in Pelican; and District 19 supervisor Lisa Zunker, who represents Wards 5 and 6 in Minocqua and Ward 1 in Lynne; have both filed declarations of non-candidacy with the county clerk’s office.

As of Tuesday morning, Gerald Anderson and Russ Fisher filed nomination papers to run in District 5 with Jeffrey Vollmer filing in District 19.

At least three of the supervisors whose current two-year terms all expire next April will face a challenge running for re-election, based on nomination papers already filed with the county clerk’s office.

Supervisor Bill Freudenberg, whose District 4 seat includes Wards 7, 11 and 13 in Rhinelander, filed nomination papers, as has a challenger, Steven Schreier. In District 3, Alex Young is being challenged by William Liebert. In District 7, Bob Mott faces a challenge from Dennis Schoeneck.

Of the other 16 supervisor seats, 15 of the incumbents had filed nomination papers to run for re-election with no challengers. They include: Sonny Paszak, District 1; Tom Kelly, District 2; Greg Pence, District 6; Jack Sorensen, District 9; Jim Winkler, District 10; Robb Jensen, District 11; Mitch Ives, District 12; Dave Hintz, District 13; Scott Holewinski, District 14; Bob Metropulos, District 15; Michael Timmons, District 16; Billy Fried, District 17; Lance Krolczyk, District 18; Alan Van Raalte, District 20; and Ted Cushing, District 21.

The other incumbent who had yet to file nomination papers as of Tuesday morning was Greg Oettinger in District 8.

The deadline to file nomination papers is 5 p.m. Tuesday.
