Big win for Northern Edge

Posted

It is tough to beat a team three times in a season. The Northland Pines Eagles girls hockey team found that out Monday night. The Edge had been defeated twice prior with both games ending in run time, as Pines would have six-goal leads. Pines would score first in just under two minutes into the game at the Dome in Eagle River.

Pines would win the shots on goal percentage but the Edge would score twice in the first to take a 2-1 lead after one, the second goal coming with only 38.3 seconds remaining in the period, and then add two more in the second, the last one on a power play goal.

Shots on goal would end up in Pines favor 30-22 but more important was the score.  The Edge came in winning three in a row beginning with a win over Wisconsin Valley Union co-op 1-0 in Antigo Jan. 23 and then two 11-1 wins at a tournament in Beaver Dam Jan. 25-26. Alicia Turunen would have 29 saves in the game for the Edge, as they won their fourth straight game, 4-1. Photos by Bob Mainhardt.
