LOG JAM DREW CROWDS BUT WAS HAMPERED BY THE WEATHER

STAR JOURNAL REPORT

The third annual Boom Lake Log Jam is history. The event which took place June 25 at Hodag Park was

“successful from a lot of aspects,” according the Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce Director, Bill Clow. One of the crowd favorites was the new event for children.

“We had great audiences at the lumberjack show and some of the live music; the Kids Karnival went over big,” said Clow. “Several non-profits made some money (on the Karnival) and kids had a good time. We heard some very positive comments, overall.”

The event ended two hours early due to storm warnings in the area, which likely had a negative affect on the event’s bottom line. This year the YMCA of the Northwoods held the 10th annual Run for Your Life races at Hodag Park in conjunction with the Log Jam, which may have increased attendance.

A Celebrity Judges panel selected Northwestern Lounge as number one, followed by the Rhinelander Cafe and Pub. The Best Bloody Mary Contest was held again this year; four area taverns competed for the People’s Choice and Celebrity Judge’s Choice awards for the title of “Best Bloody Mary in the Northwoods.” CT’s Deli won the overall popular vote in the People’s Choice category, with the Northwestern Lounge following close behind.

The panelist of Celebrity Judges included ArtStart and WXPR board member Patty Fitzpatrick, former music teacher and current Rhinelander School District board member Mary Peterson and Rhinelander City Council and Oneida County board member Alex Young. The Judge’s awarded first place to the Northwestern Lounge and Rhinelander Café and Pub took second place.

Clow said he is still waiting for the final numbers to “crunch” and then will sit down with the Chamber board of Directors to determine the next step for the event.
