American Legion Post 7 seeks participation

The Dahlberg-Makris American Legion Post 7 has a long history in Rhinelander. Organized in 1919, Post 7 is the seventh post chartered in the state of Wisconsin, but with only a scant handful of active members, 2021 may be its final year of existence.

Cindy Pitts is one of those active members and is making a plea to all local veterans to join the organization.

“For the last 20-plus years we have not held an election of officers,” Pitts said. “We’ve only had two people holding positions as officers.

“We have now come to a time when we need to have veterans step up. If we don’t get some veterans to become involved, we fear we’ll have to close our doors and retire our charter.”

A meeting will be held at 7 p.m. July 27 at Post 7, 1002 Coon Street, for the purpose of revitalizing the post.

Pitts, a Marine veteran, said the organization provides camaraderie among veterans who can talk with others who have had similar experiences. But more than that she said, is the organization’s history of helping others, like supporting the Rhinelander Legion baseball team, lobbying for veterans benefits and supporting Camp American Legion in Lake Tomahawk.

For more information on Post 7, contact Pitts at 715-362-5635.
