AIS monitoring workshop offered Aug. 13

Posted

An AIS monitoring workshop will be held Tuesday, Aug. 13 at the thoroughfare landing in Minocqua and organizers are going to try something new this year. This "classroom" experience will be on a pontoon boat and only on a pontoon boat. No desks or chalkboards.

Participants will get to view Eurasian water-milfoil, Purple Loosestrife, Yellow Iris, Curly-leaf Pondweed (hopefully still available for our viewing pleasure), and possibly other AIS. The thoroughfare is home to a number of AIS and also home to other neat creatures.

Learn to identify and recognize native and non-native aquatic species, so that you can go back to your own favorite body of water and watch for what is growing. Learn what to do if you spot AIS in the water.

There will be two time slots to choose from: 8 to 10 a.m. or 10 a.m. to noon.

Participants must sign up in advance for this workshop. Call Michele at 715-365-2750 to register.

This event is brought to you by the Oneida County Land and Water Conservation Department.
