Activities added to Chequamegon Bay Birding and Nature Festival

Due to high demand and interest, six more field trips have been to this year’s 10th Annual Chequamegon Bay Birding and Nature Festival taking place in Ashland May 19-21.

Called one of the best birding destinations in the Midwest, the Chequamegon Bay region boasts a wide variety of habitats that are home to nearly 300 species. The area features abundant public lands and extraordinary natural beauty which provides visitors with unparalleled nature-watching opportunities.

More than 350 bird and nature enthusiasts have registered for the weekend filled with field trips, workshops, educational programs, exhibits and guest speakers, according to event sponsor, the Ashland Chamber of Commerce. There will be special programs marking the centennials of the National Park Service and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1916.

More than 106 activities are available to choose from; there is still time to register but events and activities are filling fast, chamber officials reported.

The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest ‘s Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center, at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 2 and Co. Hwy. G in Ashland, will serve as the festival’s home base. Visit www.birdandnaturefest.com for more information. Photo courtesy of the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center.
