UPDATE: Deceased identified in Oneida County head-on collision

UPDATE: Oneida County Sheriff’s Office has identified the person killed in the Nov. 18 collision on Highway 17 in the town of Pine Lake. Dead is Mark E. Carlson, age 60 of Woodbury, Minn. Carlson was the driver of the southbound vehicle that law enforcement believes crossed the centerline, colliding with a northbound GMC Sierra.
TOWN OF PINE LAKE – One person is dead following a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17 in Pine Lake, just south of the intersection of Mud Lake Road around 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18.
According to Oneida County Sheriff Captain Tyler Young, it appears the accident was a head-on collision. Initial investigation indicates a southbound vehicle, a Honda CRV, crossed the centerline of Highway 17, striking a northbound GMC Sierra.
The driver of the southbound vehicle was deceased when law enforcement arrived on the scene.
The driver of the northbound vehicle was also injured and transported to a Rhinelander hospital, then flown to Wausau for treatment of their injuries. Both vehicles were occupied only by the drivers.
The name of the deceased is being withheld to notify the family. A crash reconstruction is being done with the highway closed until the investigation was complete.
The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Oneida County Medical Examiner’s Office, Pine Lake Fire Department and first responders, Pelican Fire Department and first responders, Rhinelander Medic 1, Oneida County Ambulance and the Oneida County Highway Department.
