Rhinelander PD announces sex offender released to community

RHINELANDER – The Rhinelander Police Department has announced a sex offender who has been released from state prison and will be monitored by the Department of Corrections, Probation and Parole division, will be living in Rhinelander.
Matthew Walker, 32, will be residing at 17 W. Prospect Street in Rhinelander beginning Sept. 3. He is 5-foot-11-inches tall and weighs approximately 330 pounds; has black hair and brown eyes. Walker is not wanted by police at this time. Notification is intended to inform the public, not to increase fear.
Walker was convicted in 2022 of possession of child pornography and causing a child to view or listen to sexual activity. His target victims have been both male and female minors whom he met over online social media platforms.
He will be monitored by the Department of Corrections and local law enforcement and will be subject to the conditions of the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry and placed on lifetime GPS monitoring. If anyone sees Walker engaging in concerning behavior, including unapproved contact with a minor or activity on social media platforms, they are encouraged to contact local law enforcement; either Rhinelander Police Department, 715-365-5300 or the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center, 715-361-5100.
