At 126 pounds, the Hodags’ Kyle Wiese lifts the Hatchets Jack Derleth before putting him on his back and earning points before pinning Derleth late in the second period.

The Hodag wrestling team had only half of the 14 weight classes to wrestle on Thursday night in Tomahawk for the last dual meet before the conference meet Feb. 4 that will also be in Tomahawk.  With the seven forfeits the Hodags were giving up 42 points to begin the match.

The best the Hodags could do would be to tie the match if they could win all seven matches.  The outcome of the meet was decided after the first match of the evening. At the 113 pound weight class Anthony Boldt was pinned in the first period, giving up six points.

The plan for the Hodags was to get some wins and score what they could. Senior Kyle Wiese pinned the Hatchets’ Jack Derleth with just two seconds remaining in the second period. Aiden Ostermann at 120 pounds pinned Wally Horabik with 54 seconds remaining in the first period. Logan Schwinger earned his pin with 11 seconds left in the second period and for the final win in the Hodags 24-60 loss, Owen Kurtz earned a forfeit win. BOB MAINHARDT PHOTOS
