ANTIGO – Tuesday night both the girls and boys basketball teams traveled to Antigo for a pair of games. The girls played first and started slow as Antigo began the game with an 11-0 run before the Hodags would score with over three-and-a-half minutes off the clock. Rhinelander chipped away at the Red Robins lead and took the lead at half 26-24.
In the second half the Hodags went cold, with 10 minutes left in the game the girls held an 11 point lead that would disappear with just over two minutes left in the game. After the 10 minute mark the Hodags would score six points – all on free throws for the final score of 49-52 for Rhinelander’s sixth straight loss. Ava Lamers led the Hodags in scoring with 16, followed by Leah Jamison with 13 and Lillian Treder with 11. Bob Mainhardt photos.
The boys played the nightcap against the Red Robins to a tight first half with Antigo leading at the break 23-24. Shots began to fall for the Hodags in the second half as they managed to get more open looks offensively and played good defense to limit Antigo’s chances. Scoring leaders for the boys were Will Gretzinger with 18 points, Kyle Brown 12, Truman Lamers, nine and Kaleb Winter chipping in eight points for the 60-45 Hodag win. Bob Mainhardt photos.
