Obituary: Dory Hoffhein


Doralene “Dory” Hoffhein, age 84 of Rhinelander, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2022. Dory was born April 12, 1938, in Rhinelander. She graduated high school in Rhinelander. Dory was united in marriage to George Hoffhein Feb. 18, 1956. During their 39 years of marriage, Dory and George were brought to many places around the globe due to George’s service in the Army. Dory especially loved Germany and Hawaii.
Upon returning to Rhinelander in 1985, Dory, along with George, owned and operated both the Fenlon Café and Lounge and The Garden of Eatin’ in Rhinelander for more than 30 years. Dory loved to stay busy in the community; she helped charter the Harmony Lions Club, one of the first women’s Lion’s Association Clubs in the area. She also helped to organize and was instrumental in the planning of the city-wide Easter Egg Hunt and the early years of Oktoberfest.
Dory enjoyed golfing, boating and spending time with her family, friends and her beloved dog, Izzy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; parents, Malvern and Viola Meisler; siblings, Robert, Joyce, Beverly, Collin, infant brother, Jeffery; first-born son, Samuel and infant son, Joe. Dory is survived by her daughters, Kim (Jeff) Haenel and Miki (Mike) Walker; grandchildren, Renee (Mike Meyers), Samuel Jr., Joshua, Matthew and Andrea; great-grandchildren, Jake, Morgan, Isaac, Hailey and Adaline; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dory’s visitation will be held 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26 at Hildebrand Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church with Fr. Chris Kemp officiating. All who knew Dory are welcome to attend. Immediately following mass, there will be a procession to Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dory’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
