Local church hosts organ concert

First Congregational UCC in Rhinelander is hosting a free organ concert at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 16. Featured will be Brian De Young, director of music at Olivet Congregational Church in St. Paul, Minn. De Young’s organ concert will include fantasies and works by Bach, Buxtehude and Franck, as well as rousing settings of beloved hymn tunes.
De Young is an accomplished chamber musician with interests ranging from renaissance and Baroque to new classical music and tango. He has performed with members of several symphonies as well as the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Lyra Baroque Orchestra, Opera Grand Rapids and Opera Omaha. As a tango specialist, Brian frequently performs with the Twin Cities Tango Collective and Minnesota Tango Society.
He has conducted church and community choirs throughout the Midwest and sang with the Grand Rapids Symphony Chorus and other well-known ensembles. De Young is currently Campus Ministry musician and organ instructor at Augsburg University. The concert is a gift to the community provided by First Congregational United Church of Christ.
