Obituary: Sarah Stone Cordova
Sarah Stone Cordova, born Sarah Mead Stone in St. Paul, Minn., died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2022 in an Aurora, Colo. hospital at the age of 64.
After high school in DePere, Sarah and her father went to Breckenridge, Colo., to work for the winter, but found her permanent home and stayed, her home on Moss Rock Road in Longmont her anchor. Quoted as saying, “I don’t read in my spare time; spare time is what I have when I’m not reading,” she was truly a lifelong learner.
Sarah graduated valedictorian from the University of Colorado in Boulder with a Bachelor’s Degree in finance and a Master’s in religious studies, focusing on astrology. She also studied at Goddard College in Plainfield, Vt., and the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco.
Even when not in a class, her reading topics were academically oriented toward physics and history. Sarah’s love of art, literature and nature was only surpassed by her adoration of the Green Bay Packers. She also loved riding on the back of a Harley with the wind blowing through her hair – a symbol of her inspiring free spirit.
Sarah rescued countless dogs that needed a home and had as many as seven at one time under her roof.
Sarah was preceded in death by her father, Norman Stone; survived by her mother, Mary LaMar; brothers, Tim Stone, Stewart Stone and Matt LaMar; her husband, Scott Cordova; dear close friends that were considered sisters; and her dogs, Grace and Lilly.
