Mike Webster stadium was the site of the first Hodag football game of the season Friday. Tomahawk was the opponent, a team the Hodags defeated 32-0 last year and hoped to repeat the result.

Tomahawk had other things in mind as they took a 7-0 lead into half time. The Hodags scored off the second half kickoff when Brendon Eckrich ran it back 75 yards for a touchdown to tie the score at seven.

Tomahawk, though, would score two more touchdowns and a field goal before the Hodags could score with 8:11 left in the game. Tomahawk added another field goal to make the final score 27-13, giving the Hodags their first loss of the season. The next game is Aug. 26 in Denmark.

Tomahawk’s William Tombs has Brendon Eckrich by the jersey but cannot hold on and stop Eckrich, who ran the second half kickoff for a touchdown to tie the game at 7-7.
The Hodags started on a good note as Kaleb Winter tackled the Tomahawk ball carrier for a five yard loss on the first play from scrimmage.
