Obituary: Thomas Moritz
On July 29, 2022, Thomas Robert Moritz, loving husband, father and friend, passed away at the age of 75. Tom was born in Rhinelander Jan. 28, 1947, to parents Fran and Bob Moritz. He attended Rhinelander schools and graduated from RHS in 1965. Tom continued his education at UW-Superior where he also played football until graduating with a degree in Biology in 1969. On May 15, 1971, Tom married Nan, his beloved wife of 51 years. Together they raised two daughters, Wendy, and Heidi.
Tom worked alongside his father at Moritz Tire and eventually purchased and ran the business until his retirement in December 2017.
Tom’s compassion, integrity, strong work ethic, generosity, and dedication to serving others were important values he carried through in running his business. Tom liked to stay active and enjoyed biking, taking classes at the YMCA, coaching gymnastics, fishing and vacationing in Florida with his wife. Tom’s hobbies, especially biking, introduced him to some very special lifelong friends whose company brought him much joy. Above all, Tom loved and cared for his family very deeply. He was a selfless man who put others before himself. Time spent with his family was what Tom cherished the most.
Tom is survived by his wife, Nan; daughter, Heidi; son-in-law, Jason; granddaughter, Annabelle “Rosebud” Skurkay; grandson, Tommy Fredericks and fiancé Juliana Spry; son-in-law, Rob Fredericks; sister-in-law, Vicki Brown and husband Don; the Fischer family, and the Moritz family.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Fran; and his daughter, Wendy.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Szmanda and Dr. Danny Lundberg for their exceptional care. We were blessed to have each of them. They cared for him with kindness and compassion which meant so much to our family.
The family will honor Tom in a ceremony and would like to invite all those who knew and loved him to a Celebration of Life on Saturday, Aug. 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Pine Harbor Resort, 3999 Trails End Road in Rhinelander.
