PRESQUE ISLE – A downed power line in Vilas County is responsible for a fire and the subsequent death of two people, the Vilas County Sheriff’s Office said. Authorities were alerted to a fire off Baer Road in Presque Isle shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday. Two victims, Linda Rottman, 62 and Matthew Rottman, 23, both of Presque Isle and the Chicago area, were discovered once the fire was extinguished.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, an investigation has determined that the deaths were a result of downed powerlines. THe power lines were on the ground due to a pine tree that fell on them during Monday’s storms. The incident has been ruled an accident.
