Winter sports come to an end

The winter sports season for Rhinelander High School has come to an end as the boys basketball team lost to Medford at Antigo by a final score of 56-29. This was the first sectional trip for the boys since 2014. Medford opened the game on a 16-0 run before the Hodags would score a point on a Jacksen Smith free throw making the score 16-1. Their first basket from the field came on a Will Gretzinger three with over 11 minutes gone in the game. Medford led at the half 29-11 and were never threatened.
The Hodags could not get into a rhythm during the entire game as they finished shooting only 28% on the night compared to Medford’s 51%. The Hodags’ Will Gretzinger was the only Hodag in double digits with 10 points while Medford had four players in double digits led by Logan Baumgartner’s 14 points.
The officials allowed both teams to play as the Hodags had eight foul calls and Medford seven for the game. The Hodags were 3-of-5 at the line while Medford was 2-for-3.

Spring sports season begins

Over 60 boys and girls participated in the first week of track practice that began Monday. More will be joining as the boys basketball team was still practicing having qualified for the sectional semi-final game that took place on Thursday evening.
1498 Coach Kraemer spoke to the track team before the first day of practice.
