Obituary: Roger W. Jackson

Roger Walter Jackson, age 87, passed away after a brief illness Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022.
He has called Rhinelander home for the last 30 years.
Roger always had a plan, for his life, his work, and his retirement. After he had worked for District 34 in Glenview, Ill. for over 30 years as Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds, he and the love of his life, Barbara, retired to the Northwoods of Wisconsin. He built a house in the woods, heated it with wood and always had a list of things to do. He was an avid vegetable gardener. He enjoyed refinishing antiques, building furniture and rehabbing a room or two in his spare time. Winter was his favorite season. You could always find him outside snow blowing or shoveling. Neighborly, spreading kindness to new and old friends, tending to his kids or loving his ole’ dog Skipper, he could always be found telling stories or making you laugh. He became a world traveler with Barbara travelling to Washington DC by train for Obama’s inauguration or by plane to countries like Russia and Prague while discovering that China was one of his favorite trips.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara (Weir) Jackson; his daughter, Deborah Jackson Moss (Laura Moss); sons, Curtis Jackson and Gregory Jackson; Grand-dogs, Leia and Luke; brother-in-law, Lee Weir (Charlene Weir); and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Walter Jackson; step-father, George Whitcamp; mother, Pearl (Roman) Whitcamp and brother, William Jackson.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 4, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., all at First United Methodist Church of Rhinelander. For the safety of attendees and community, we are asking that anyone attending services to please wear a mask.
The funeral will be streamed live at rfmc.online.
