UPDATE: Oneida County Sheriff identifies jail suicide victim
RHINELANDER – The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the inmate who died by suicide Tuesday in Oneida County jail. Dead is Wayne A. Maynard, 52, of Rockford, Mich.
According to court records, Maynard was arrested in August and entered not guilty pleas to four charges related to child sex crimes. He was not convicted of any charges at the time of his death.
Jail corrections officers reportedly noticed Maynard attempting suicide around 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21.
Rhinelander Fire Department Medics and corrections officers attempted to revive Maynard, who was then pronounced dead at the jail.
The Vilas County Sheriff’s Office and the Oneida County Medical Examiner’s Office are conducting an investigation surrounding the incident. The State Department of Corrections has been notified and is conducting an administrative review, as well as the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office conducting an internal review.
