WAUKESHA – Madison Edgewood was projected to win Division 2 by a wide margin so the battle was for the runner up trophy at the WIAA state swim meet held over the weekend.

Rhinelander was projected to be the front runner if the swim times went according to the seeds.

Senior Malia Francis did her part by winning her two individual events, the 200 yard IM and the 100 yard backstroke. Francis set the Division 2 state record with a time of 54.39 breaking the old record of 54.65 set in 2016.

The Hodags medaled in several events including the 200 yard medley relay with a second place finish, Abi Winnicki a sixth place in the 100 yd freestyle, a fourth place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay and a third place finish in the 400 yd freestyle relay. Each of the six girls that swam in the meet earned a medal for sixth place or better. Bob Mainhardt photos.
