The Rhinelander Common Council will meet Wednesday night to vote on the hiring of Zach Vruwink as the city administrator. Vruwink, the leading candidate for the job, had been working for the city as a contracted assistant to Mayor Chris Frederickson  and is the former Wisconsin Rapids mayor.

At the Feb. 23 common council meeting, the council gave the mayor, city attorney Steve Sorenson and Director of Human Resources Doreen St. Onge the go-ahead to negotiate a contract with Vruwink.

If approved by the council, Vruwink will assume the full duties of city administrator immediately following the meeting.

A press release stated that Frederickson expressed his support for Vruwink and for the process that was used to obtain the best candidate.

He also indicated that he is anxious to “get back to his role as Mayor and refocusing his desire to serve the citizens of the City of Rhinelander as an innovator and policy maker.”

The meeting will take place 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, at city hall and will be streamed live at HodagTV.com.
