Star Journal Report
Two Rhinelander High School students are among 200 Herb Kohl Educational Foundation scholarship winners for 2021, and will receive $10,000 each.
Quinton Lamers was named an Excellence Scholar, awarded to students who have demonstrated “excellence in the academic arena and high motivation to achieve, have displayed a broad range of activity and leadership outside the academic setting and have shown strong promise for succeeding in college and beyond.” Recipients of this award are selected by a statewide committee composed of civic leaders and representatives of education-related associations and the program’s co-sponsors.
Annalexis Jensen has been selected as a Student Initiative Scholar, having demonstrated “exceptional initiative in the classroom and have shown strong promise for succeeding in college and beyond, but have not yet received other academic-based scholarships.” Recipients of this award are chosen by their schools.
In addition to these student awards, the Herb Kohl Foundation Scholarship and Fellowship program recognized 101 teachers and 16 principals and their schools. The program was established by philanthropist and businessman Herb Kohl in 1990. Since then the foundation has awarded nearly $25 million to Wisconsin educators, principals, students and schools.
