A Three Lakes man has been arrested following a vehicle-pedestrian accident that left a man dead. Samuel E. Steinhaus, 29, was arrested Feb. 12 following a 911 call reporting a vehicle crash in which a pedestrian was backed over on Highway X near Medicine Lake Lodge in the Town of Three Lakes.

The preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling north on Highway X, went into the southbound ditch, and in the process of attempting to pull out of the ditch, George E. Steinhaus, 59 of Three Lakes, was hit by the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Three Lakes Police Chief Scott Lea, charges against the younger Steinhaus include homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle, third offense operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and operating of a motor vehicle after revocation, have been forwarded to the Oneida County District Attorney’s office.
