The Oneida County Snowmobile Council has voted to open the Oneida County funded snowmobile trail system at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9.

The trail system is administered by the county Forestry, Land and Recreation Department. According to a press release, the department is not in favor of the decision to open, but the council vote was 7-2 in favor. The county noted the trails are in “extremely rough, early season condition.”

All lake trails in Oneida County remain closed and are considered unsafe until they have been marked by a local snowmobile club. Riders are reminded to stay on clearly marked trails and use caution.

A snowmobile trail system map is available online here.
