Rhinelander Veterans Day event planned for Wednesday

VETERANS NEWS
By Tammy Javenkoski
Oneida County Veterans Service Officer
In lieu of a Veterans Day ceremony in Rhinelander this year, we’re hosting a Veterans Day event at the Rhinelander Veterans Center, located at 1002 Coon St. in Rhinelander (between Forest Home Cemetery and UPS). It will be held on 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11. I will be there to provide information to veterans, family members, surviving spouses, and caregivers as well as information about the Northwoods National Cemetery, which opened on Oct. 26.
Additionally, our local Veterans Service Organizations will be there to talk about what they do for veterans and our community and hopefully, recruit new members to join them. They will also be looking for new people to join the Honor Guard, which performs at veteran and non-veteran events and provides military honors at veterans’ funerals. Unless there’s a medical reason for not wearing a mask, we request everyone wear one. For more information, contact my office or see our ad in this edition of the Star Journal.
An update on COVID: Unless county policy changes, Jason and I are both working in our office and we are open for walk-ins and appointments. We strongly encourage you to call or email us, though, to keep the number of clients coming in and out of the courthouse and our office to a minimum. Because of our veterans’ database and our great IT Department, there is so much we can do via technology instead of in-person so most of our appointments don’t need to be done face-to-face.
Did you know we have a Facebook page and a web page? Both venues provide a wealth of important and updated information. Check us out at Facebook.com/oneidacvso and co.oneida.wi.us/departments/vs/.
