COVID-19 cases reported at Northwoods schools

STAR JOURNAL REPORT

The School District of Rhinelander is reporting a case of COVID-19 at Pelican Elementary School. According to the district’s Facebook page, the person – not indicating whether the person is a staff member or student – who has tested positive will be “excluded from school until determined by the Oneida County Health Department to no longer be infectious.”

Students and staff who have been identified as close contacts with the person during school hours have been contacted by the health department. Close contacts are considered to be people within six feet of the individual for greater than 15 minutes during the infectious period. Close contacts will be kept away from school for 14 days past the date of last exposure and will be monitored by the health department.

The Three Lakes School District is also reporting a staff member tested positive for  COVID-19 Tuesday, Sept. 8. The person is self-quarantining and will not be at school until local health officials determine he or she is no longer infectious. The district, inn collaboration with the county health department has contacted students and staff identified as close contacts.
