Girls win first home meet

The Hodag girls tennis team opened the fall season Aug. 24 with the first competition of the new school year. Marshfield Columbus came to town in an attempt to ruin new head coach Matt Nichols’ coaching debut. Thanks to the girls being ready to play, Nichols recorded his first win as the new coach.
The match ended in the Hodags’ favor, 6-1. The only blemish was a three-set loss at No. 4 singles with freshman Shayla Coppenger putting up a good fight, but coming up short in her first varsity contest. The girls return to action at home Sept. 3. Photos by Bob Mainhardt.
