Sewage overflow reported in Rhinelander

The city of Rhinelander has reported a sanitary sewage overflow occurred Tuesday evening, July 14 near 900 Boyce Drive.
City water and sewer utility personnel responded to a blockage in a single manhole around 8:30 p.m. According to a city press release, the workers stopped the overflow and released the backup of sewage, which reportedly amounted to less than 1,000 gallons.
The overflow proceeded to drain over land to the Pelican River waterway. No basement backups were reported, and the city stated “all necessary steps are being taken to limit any public health hazard or potential harmful effects to the environment.”
The city notified the Department of Natural Resources.
