The Rhinelander Kiwanis Club raised over $24,000 at its Winter Escapes Extravaganza. The event, held March 7, attracted a standing room only crowd for a night of fun and prizes. The grand prize winner of $2,000 was an anonymous Rhinelander resident who donated the money to YMCA of the Northwoods.
The second prize winner of $1,000 was Daniel Vancos. Additionally, more than 100 prizes and cash donated by Rhinelander area businesses were given away during the festivities. All of the money raised during Winter Escapes will be donated to programs, projects and organizations that support Rhinelander area children. In its 33-year history, Winter Escapes has raised over $425,000, all of which has been donated to benefit Rhinelander area children.
Past projects funded with money raised through Winter Escapes include the children’s art classroom at Rhinelander ArtStart, the greenhouse at the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry, purchase and installation of Pioneer Park playground equipment, construction of the lighted outdoor basketball court at Central School, the hiking trail at the YMCA, and a new dock for Camp Birchrock.
