Star Journal Report

Competition was close at this year’s CANtastics food drive event held at Rouman Cinema in Rhinelander. Six teams competed by creating structures that fit the theme, “On the Road to Ending Hunger.”

A total of 6,664 cans of food were donated to the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry (RAFP) as a result of the contest. More than 5,400 cans were used in the construction, and 1,222 cans were received in voting for the People’s Choice award.

Most Cans Used: Positively Rhinelander used 1,956 cans to create a lighthouse

People’s Choice Award: PeliCAN School received 437 cans as votes for the bridge the team created

Judges’ Choice Award: Three volunteer judges selected their favorite entry, a large Wisconsin license plate created by the Methodist Youth Fellowship team.

After all the team evaluation sheets are returned, including suggestions for next year’s event, a theme for CANtastics 2021 will be announced. Photos submitted by the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry.
