The Hodag girls are Great Northern Conference champions for the second consecutive year. The title was won Tuesday night in Minocqua as the team defeated Lakeland, 66-55.

In this photo, which is almost an optical illusion, Cynthia Beavers is fouled hard by Joeli Kochler on a shot attempt in the lane.

The first half was tight with the lead going back and forth with the Hodags taking a 30-27 half time lead. In the second half, the pressure was turned up to force more turnovers and make some fast break opportunities. Cynthia Beavers led all scorers with 28 points, scoring 20 of them in the second half. Kenedy Van Zile had 19, Rebecca Lawrence had 17 and Megan Brown rounded out the Hodag scoring with two.

The Hodags’ pressure defense on Abby Parris limited the conference’s fifth leading scorer to one point.

Three games remain in the regular season, all at home. The Hodags host Antigo Friday night, Marshfield on Thursday and close out the season against Tomahawk.
