Vilas County snowmobile fatality Tuesday

UPDATE: The victim in this snowmobile crash has been identified as Kevin A. Keenan, age 61, of Lake Zurich, Ill.     

The Vilas County Sheriff’s Office is reporting another snowmobile fatality. According to a press release, the county dispatch center received a 911 call at 1:49 p.m. Feb. 4, reporting a snowmobile hit a tree on trail 10 near marker 103 in the town of Conover.

The initial report was that the operator was non-responsive and CPR  had been started. Upon arrival of the ambulance and rescue crew it was determined the operated was deceased.

The operator’s name has not been released pending notification of family. The accident remains under investigation.

According to a DNR summary, as of Jan. 27, there have been eight snowmobile fatalities in Wisconsin in 2020. There were 16 snowmobile deaths in the state in 2019.

Vilas County was assisted at the scene by Conover ambulance and rescue, the DNR, Eagle River ambulance and Vilas County medical examiner.
