WPS recognized for reliability
Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) is a recipient of the ReliabilityOne Award for being among the best in the United States for electric reliability. WPS, which provides electric service to approximately 446,000 customers in northern and north central Wisconsin, won the recognition based on its performance in 2018. A press release states WPS has “ focused on improving its energy infrastructure, most notably through the SMRP, an innovative effort to upgrade and convert over 2,000 miles of electric lines, primarily in Wisconsin’s heavily forested, rural areas.”
Community Christmas dinner
The Rhinelander Lions Club is once again sponsoring a community Christmas dinner, Wednesday, Dec. 25 at Nativity of Our Lord Church, serving 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Dinner will include turkey and all the trimmings. Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the event can call Dick, 715-490-1899 or Sandy, 715-360-3581. The Lions thank Trig’s for the help in preparing the turkeys and pies, Nativity parish for providing the kitchen and hall, Chef Chris from Friendship House Restaurant for his leadership, Holiday Station for the donation of milk, Sowinski Farms for donating potatoes and Rapid Cab for providing free transportation to and from the dinner. Santa for Seniors
Unique Creations, a downtown Rhinelander business, is organizing the “Santa for a Senior” program to benefit the clients of Home Away from Home Loving Care. Paper ornaments are available at Unique Creations, 146 N. Brown Street. Each ornament lists the client’s name, age, wants and needs. Owner Kate Bauman asks that participants choose an ornament, purchase gifts and return them wrapped by Tuesday, Dec. 17. Bauman added that the program is “another way we live our mantra of Kindness Matters.” For more information, call 715-369-7286.
Three Lakes ‘Festival of Lights’ this weekend
The 25th annual Festival of Lights and Jingle Mingle will take place in Three Lakes Nov. 29-30. The family-friendly events get underway Friday with a free showing of the holiday classic, Polar Express at 2 p.m. at the Three Lakes Center for the Arts. Evening events will be held at Cy Williams Park beginning at 4 p.m. and will include a tree lighting ceremony and live reindeer, elves, a sleigh for photos and a horse-drawn carriage ride, snacks and refreshments. Santa and Mrs. Claus are expected to arrive by fire truck at 5 p.m.
Saturday the Chamber of Commerce continues the fun with the annual Jingle Mingle holiday shopping event. Several Three Lakes business will be participating. For details and more information, visit www.threelakes.com or call 715-546-3344.
Whisker Wonderland
The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is offering professional pet portraits to pet parents in the Northwoods. Whisker Wonderland is part of the Bark for Life fundraising effort. Pets photographed are likely to be included in the 2021 Bark for Life calendar. The event is sponsored by Ripco Credit Union and will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13 at Ripco’s Eagle River Branch and 9-11 a.m. Dec, 14 at Ripco Credit Union in Rhinelander. View and bid on a Green Bay Packer 50th anniversary season signed football at both credit union locations. Winner will be announced Dec. 14. A $5 minimum donation is requested for photos.
