Real Men Sing
The men of the Rhinelander High School Choir program traveled to Milwaukee recently to participate in the Real Men Sing event hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
The tenors and basses received coaching and sectional work with university professors throughout the morning, and learned, rehearsed and performed three pieces of music. Dr. Desiree Wattelet, RHS Choral Director, said the opportunity to work with a college professor is invaluable in helping them to build a solid choral foundation.
“It has show the gentlemen in all of our choirs some new ways to project their voices, be louder…and has also helped their confidence in singing together as a group,” Wattelet said. “Gentlemen are often underrepresented in most ensembles, so I think it can be really wonderful for young singers to be around other guys that have similar interests and similar talents and see how diverse that can be.”
The morning culminated with a performance that included all 1,100 high school guys from around the state.
Real Men Sing also included performances by UWM’s male ensembles and a professional barbershop quartet.
