Star Journal Staff
The trial of a former contracted janitor at Northwoods Community Elementary School (NCES) in Rhinelander began Wednesday in Oneida County Circuit Court. Stavros Iliopoulos, 66, is charged with child enticement, false imprisonment and first degree child sexual assault for allegedly inappropriately touching a female student at NCES last November.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, school surveillance video shows Iliopoulos entering a closet with the student. The student reportedly told school officials that Iliopoulos hugged her, kissed her and touched her bare leg.
NCES Principal Alex Bontz was the first witness called by Assistant District Attorney Mary Sowinski, followed by the school district network administrator Dan Wolter, Eagle River Police Detective Ryan Rossing (former Oneida County Detective) and Oneida County Detective Kelly Moermond. The surveillance video, diagrams and photos, as well as the girl’s recorded statement were played for the jury.
The trial continues today.
