The Wisconsin Grocers Association (WGA) surprised Rhinelander Trig’s store director with two awards Friday morning. Don Theisen was recognized for his contributions to the grocery industry in the state as well as the Rhinelander community, with two WGA-sponsored awards – the first time someone has won both awards in the same year.

First presented with the Community Service award, Theisen said he was honored to receive the award and was only “trying to continue what Trig started.” He was then told he also won the Excellence in Operations award, which Theisen said belongs to his whole team.

“The Excellence in Operations award recognizes store owners, managers and store directors in the grocery industry who are on the front lines every day and instrumental in the success of their stores,” said Brandon Scholz, president and CEO of the WGA. “The Community Service award salutes those who have gone above and beyond with their contributions to their community.”

In one nomination, Theisen was credited with having passion for the “ever-changing grocery industry,” a positive attitude, ability to motivate others to succeed, a desire for results and competitive nature; traits that contributed to his success at Trig’s. Theisen  won the 2019 TA Solberg Co., Inc. Outstanding Business Leader TAS award; he was the only individual in the company nominated for an award in all categories.

Theisen will be presented with a formal award at a state meeting in October.
