Three-vehicle crash sends five to area hospitals

A portion of Highway 8 was closed for several hours Thursday as a result of a three-vehicle crash near North Rifle Road. According to Oneida County Patrol Captain Tyler Young, the accident occurred around 10:40 a.m. People on the scene reported serious injuries and that airbags were deployed.
The vehicles involved were a 2001 Crown Victoria, a 2018 Volvo and a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado. The driver of the Volvo and driver of the Silverado were transported via ambulance to Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital. The driver of the Crown Victoria was taken by ambulance to the Rhinelander/Oneida County Airport and flown by helicopter to Aspirus Hospital in Wausau. Both passengers in the Crown Victoria were taken to Ascension St. Mary’s; the front passenger was later airlifted to another hospital.
The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office will be completing the report for the accident, which remains under investigation. The Wisconsin State Patrol is completing a reconstruction of the accident.
