Special Olympians do well at regional meet; six move on to state
The School District of Rhinelander’s Special Olympics team competed in the regional track and field meet at Merrill High School May 11. The team had 12 athletes participate in various throwing and running events. Ribbon awards were given for first through eighth place.
RHINELANDER RESULTS
Paige Appling – sixth in shot put, seventh in turbo jav, fourth in 100-meter run;
Marshall Barlowski – fifth in shot put, first in turbo jav, fifth in 100-meter run;
Stephen Herrmann – fifth in shot put, first in turbo jav, and fifth in 100-meter run;
Allison Brunette – third in softball throw;
Maria Dornfeld – second in softball throw and fifth place in 50-meter run;
Miguel Gonzalez third in shot put, fifth in turbo jav, eighth in 50-meter run;
Nevaeh Johnson – sixth in softball throw and second in 100-meter run;
Daray Hawes – fifth in softball throw and fifth in 100-meter run;
Gabe White – first in shot put, third in turbo jav, and eighth in 100-meter run;
Spencer Smith – fourth in softball throw and seventh in 50-meter run;
Jenna May Enders – third place in softball throw and second in 50-meter run;
Whitley Divine – second in softball throw and fourth in 100-meter run.
Six athletes will represent the team and participate in the State Summer Games at UW-Stevens Point June 6-8. Barlowski, Herrmann, and White will compete in turbo jav; Dornfeld in softball throw, White and Gonzalez in shot put, and Johnson in the 100-meter run.
