Tomahawk Leader purchased by community-focused Multi Media Channels
For the Star Journal
After nearly four decades in Tomahawk media, publishers Larry & Kathy Tobin have sold the Tomahawk Leader to Waupaca-based Multi Media Channels (MMC).
MMC began its work in community newspaper publishing in Denmark, WI, in 1953. Under the leadership of founder, Frank Wood, the business expanded into other markets. Today, the company remains in the Wood family, now working with 23 publications and 14 digital channels.
With a solid focus on local news and community engagement, each publication has become an integral part of the area in which it serves.
With a 132-year history in the Tomahawk community, the Tomahawk Leader has become a staple, along with the publishers that came before.
MMC will continue on the foundation built by those that worked to educate, inform, and engage the public through the years. After so many years at the helm, the community will miss Larry and Kathy fulfilling that role; however, MMC has a solid commitment to remain stewards of the community.
“Our stewardship will be to continue the Tobin family tradition of reporting hyper-local news to the community,” said CEO Patrick Wood.
The Tobins said they have been honored to be the caretakers of the Tomahawk Leader for 37 years and look forward to remaining part of the community.
“We have prided ourselves in providing strong local coverage and we look forward to watching the Leader continue this tradition. We share a belief in the critical role a community newspaper serves,” the Tobins said.
