The Fourth of July is just around the corner, and Downtown Rhinelander Inc. is looking for participants for the city’s annual parade. This year’s parade will be in recognition of 50 years of the first steps on the moon with the theme “America: Horizons Unlimited.” The parade will feature several area high school marching bands as well as the Rhinelander Community Band, Janesville Fife & Drum, and the Zor Funsters, among many others.

Entries will be judged, and prizes will be awarded in the following categories: non-profit, business, marching, and general. DRI is also looking for cars or trucks to lead sponsored units. Organizers would like sharp-looking vehicles, which can be antique or new. There are no fees to participate in the parade, but a donation of at least $5 is appreciated.

The parade is scheduled for Thursday, July 4, at 11 a.m., and the route starts on Brown Street by the police station and ends at Courtney and Davenport Streets. In addition, the Rhinelander Lions kiddie parade is scheduled right before the main parade at 10 a.m.

Anyone wishing to participate in the parade can pick up an application at the Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce office. Completed applications must be returned by June 28. Lineup locations and times will be mailed to participants the week of July 1. Questions regarding the main parade can be directed to Dale Schlieve at 715-369-1814. For questions about the Lions kiddie parade, contact Tim Gengler at 715-369-1912.
