Eagle River ice arena finalist for Hockeyville USA

The Eagle River Hockey Arena is a finalist in the 2019 Kraft Hockeyville USA title. If the “Dome” earns the most votes during a 28-hour voting period, the Eagle River Recreation Association will host a NHL pre-season game and will receive $150,000 in rink upgrades. The runner-up will win $30,000 for rink upgrades, the second-place rink wins $10,000 in rink upgrades. Each of the four finalists will receive $10,000 in new hockey equipment.
The ERRA is in the midst of a $1.5 million fundraising campaign to make necessary upgrades to the facility, which is said to be the last of its kind in the world. According to the gofundme account, construction on the “Dome” began in 1925. And was created by architect Max Hanisch, Sr.
The other finalists are Calument Colosseum in Calumet, Mich., Wexford County Civic Center in Cadillac, Mich., and Bernicks Pepsi Arena in Sartell, Minn.
Voting takes place at www.krafthockeyville.com March 30 from 6 a.m. central, through 10 a.m. central, March 31. One voter will be selected to win a trip for two to a Stanley Cup final game, including accommodations and spending money. Each vote cast equals one entry into the sweepstakes; 40-entry maximum.
