Viewpoint: Reader endorses Neubauer for State Supreme Court

Editor,
It is unusual to have such an important election where the choice between candidates so clear. On April 2 we will be electing a justice of the State Supreme Court for a 10-year term. One candidate, Judge Lisa Neubauer, has all the qualifications you could ask for.

She has the experience, having served on the appellate court for over 10 years. And she is widely respected. Because of the excellence and impartiality of her work, in 2015 she was appointed by the State Supreme Court to be Chief Judge of the Wisconsin Court of Appeals.

Her record of being an astute, fair and independent judge is demonstrated in one simple statistic: of all the Wisconsin judges that have endorsed a candidate in this race, a whopping 98 percent have endorsed her – that is truly remarkable.

On the other hand, her opponent, Brian Hagedorn, has espoused views that are so extreme that judges across the state and political spectrum are refusing to endorse him. But there is more: when the Wisconsin Realtors Association, an organization that traditionally contributes to conservative candidates, found out about Hagedorn’s views and values, it revoked its earlier endorsement of him and requested their donation back – which is truly remarkable in a very different way.

The choice couldn’t be clearer. But because of outside money pouring in, the election will be close. On April 2, let’s elect a distinguished, respected and independent jurist to our Supreme Court: Lisa Neubauer.
Phyllis Schuit, Hazelhurst
